Netflix is full of teasers this week. The latest tiny look at an upcoming show is a teaser for Jupiter’s Legacy, a series based on the comics by Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and artist Frank Quitely. Jupiter’s Legacy stars action movie everyman Josh Duhamel and is about a generation of superheroes struggling to live up to the feats of their (also superpowered) parents.
In an interview when Jupiter’s Legacy began in 2013, Millar touched on many of his influences for the story, which ranged from Hamlet to Star Wars to King Kong to the origins of the original Green Lantern. He described the series as “a more universal story that’s about the difference between generations.”
Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) was originally on board as showrunner, but in 2019 he left, citing creative differences. Sang Kyu Kim (Altered Carbon) stepped in midway through production on this first season.
Jupiter’s Legacy stars Duhamel (Transformers) as Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian, Leslie Bibb (Iron Man) as Sheldon’s wife Grace/Lady Liberty, Ben Daniels (The Exorcist) as Walter Sampson/Brainwave, and Andrew Horton (How to Talk to Girls at Parties) and Elena Kampouris (Sacred Lies) as the Sheldon kids, Brandon and Chloe. The eight-episode first season will land on Netflix on May 7th.
